Introduction to Me

Hello!

My name is Asaleigh but most of my friends and family call me Ace. I'll respond to either so feel free to chose either one. I grew up in Bend Oregon and moved here for school. I miss home sometimes but enjoy the experience I am gaining by being in Oklahoma. To switch it up I thought I would give a couple fun facts for my introduction.

One is that I am fluent in American Sign Language. I started my freshman year in high school and have continued learning and using it through today. I plan on getting my interpreting license after graduating with my Language Arts Education Degree. I enjoy it more then any other hobby I have and plan on improving this skill for the rest of my life.

Another cool fact is that I recently got a puppy. She is Husky and Blue Heeler mix and is a playful 7 week old. She also is already so spoiled by everyone in her life. She keeps me busy for sure. She is my first puppy and has been a life style change in the few short weeks I have had her. Her name in Lucca and is the sweetest  little thing you will ever meet. She is supposed to get the size of a lab and have tons of personality because of the two breeds she is. I will try and keep updates on her throughout the semester on how big she is getting and different milestones she hits.

Hope you enjoyed a few fun facts and can not wait to learn more about all of you. I am excited to experience this class and the new idea of blogging. If you want to know more feel free to ask! I am an open book and will attempt to answer everything.

  1. Here I am back again, Ace, and your puppy is still the cutest thing ever. I am really looking forward to pix as she gets bigger! I think it is wonderful that you have learned American Sign Language. I bet with video resources online now, there are a lot of opportunities to learn and practice since that is something you cannot really learn from a book, right? And now you have made me curious: I wonder what kind of sign language they use in India...? It is a country with MANY different languages, and I am sure there is a large deaf population since it is such a huge country. Oh, I am so curious I have to Google and find out... and here it is: Indo-Pakistani Sign Language (IPSL) ... if you want to use this class to somehow learn about IPSL, I think that would be great! With your knowledge of ASL, I bet you would have a lot of insight into this special culture in India!

  2. Hello, Ace! Thank you for sharing a little info about yourself. I too am curious to see pictures of Lucca as she grows. You can definitely see the husky in her already. I am impressed to read that you are fluent in sign language. I do not know much about it, but I can imagine that it is very challenging. Do you see/feel a difference between memorizing text-words vs signed-words? I wonder if signed-words are easier because there is action involved in it—you have to do something. I think that this skill will be an excellent compliment to your degree.

I look forward to seeing more of your posts in the future!

  3. Nice to meet you Ace! You are very far from home! Your puppy is adorable, with the most beautiful eyes.
I think it is incredible that you took it upon yourself to learn another language. It is a tough challenge to take on, but it sounds like you have the drive and purpose to continue with it!

    Until next time!

  4. Hi Ace,

I am from out of state too, so I understand being a bit homesick sometimes. I always tell myself it's a good experience being here, but you can't help but miss the comfort of home. On a positive note, I smiled so hard at the picture of your cute puppy! She is so fluffy!! You must love her to death. If I ever got a dog I would want either a Husky or a Chocolate Lab. It was nice meeting you and I look forward to reading your blog throughout the semester!

  5. Hello Ace! First off I would like to say that I love your nick name. It's good to hear that you have a positive outlook on your time away from home, I know it's never easy to be away from the ones you love. You have a great looking puppy and I will be checking back in on your page throughout to see how she grows. My fiancé and I have a dog that is half blue healer, and I can tell you that he is extremely loyal. I don't know much about ASL, but it is great to hear that you plan on furthering your knowledge base and plan on getting a license to interpret. It was nice to meet you and I look forward to reading more of your blog.

  6. Oh my your pup is precious! Lucca is a beautiful name and she has the beautiful eyes to match! Welcome to the sooner state, hope people are treating you with nothing but kindness. I am so jealous how well you know sign language. There was a time when I would practice on a daily basis in middle school to remember sign language but sadly I slowly gave up and now all I can remember is "I love you" and how to spell my name. Which probably won't get me far if I try to sign. If there is ever a time that you need some advice on the best or worst places throughout OKC, let me know and I can surely help!

  7. Nice to meet you Ace. Your puppy is the most adorable husky I have ever seen, and I am super jealous of you! My roommate and I have wanted to get a dog for quite some time now, but we just don't have the time to take care of one. I look forward to updates about her throughout the semester!
Also, it is very cool that you are fluent in sign language. I always wished that it was offered at my high school or even here at OU. Good luck with your studies and licensing!

  11. Hi Ace! I think it is awesome that you have stuck with sign language for so long. Your puppy Lucca is adorable and how fun to have a puppy but I also know it can be a lot of work. Before the Super bowl this past Sunday, I watched the Puppy bowl and it was so cute! I highly suggest it.

    Nice to meet you!

  13. Ace is such a cute and fun nickname! I think it's great that you know sign language! I went to an ASL elementary school so I got to learn a little bit of sign language throughout the years but nowhere near fluent! And of course, I love that picture of your puppy! She looks like an absolute gem! Best of luck with balancing potty training and homework :)

  14. Hi Asaleigh,
First off, that’s so cool that you’re fluent in ASL. I’ve always wanted to learn it so badly!! I only know the alphabet and a few simple words but I would really, really like to become fluent in it. I love huskies!! They’re the cutest dogs in the world, in my opinion. Her name is also super precious! It was nice to read all about you!

  16. Hi Asaleigh,
It was good to read about you and learn that you are fluent in American Sign Language. That is awesome and seems like it would need a lot of practice to be good in that. I hope the best for you in school and after to get your interpreting license. I also think your dog is very cute. Good luck this semester.
